CE MEETING AUGUST 13, 2008

Present: Margie Sanders, Mike Brewer, Kim Innis, Mike Pohl, and Bill Bretz

The Picnic table has arrived and is assembled and is out in the back grass area.  Harry & David & Mike P. are working together to make a bordered and mulched area for the table to set.  Funds contributed from past CE & God Squad Car Washes and a 1st Step Donation of $300 will be used from the CE Restricted Fund to pay for the Picnic table.

The Summer Project is creating beautiful art that is being framed.  Funding for the Framing will be from the CE Restricted Fund.

The Budget was reviewed, and it was agreed that due to the projected increases of CE programs that the budget to support these new programs will be needed.  CE has proposed to increase its budget by $1100.

Bill & Margie report that the mission was incredible and inspiring.  The trip to Estes Park with Bill & Karen Bretz as tour guys was wonderful.  The Youth Works Mission in Denver was very well done and provided life changing mission experiences.  The $8300 grant from the Presbytery and all the congregational support of fund raisers made the mission possible.

It was suggested to get pictures of the mission onto the Website.

Kim & Pastor Mike report that VBS was great fun and a great success. 11 youth and 15 adults enjoyed the crafts, songs, bible studies and the wonderful performance of Nick & Cooper (aka Kim & David Innis).  Rachel Cox helped with music and Debbie Ostendorf created the wonderful crafts she is known for.  Rebecca Miller from God Squad also helped with music and the little ones.

Kim has agreed to head up VBS for 2009.  Recommendations for next year include starting our planning for VBS in January or February of 2009.  It was also recommended to reach out to 1st Step and to expand the program to include the young adults. In an effort to reach out into the community, it also suggested to advertise in the paper, and to advertise with signs and banners out side the church.

Sunday School will have its Kick Off, September 7th.  The Teachers will be introduced and commissioned in worship that day.  Kim has agreed to inform worship of this date. Kim will be asking our resident photographers to take the students pictures for the Kick Off.

The 2008 Sunday School and Adult Bible study will continue with the same schedule.  The Ad Hoc committee has met and will have a new schedule and new classes for 2009.

Teachers are still needed.  The middle school age needs 2 teachers, and a supporting teacher for the other 3 lower classes is needed.  The Young Adult classes will need more teachers as they are expanding into 2 classes and Bill Bretz will be concentrating his efforts on God Squad this year.

Family Fun nights are back.  Tresha Lewis is very excited about the program and has great ideas.

Tentetive dates are:

October 26th  with a Halloween theme.  Amy Sanders has agreed to lead the Bible Study.

November 23rd for Advent and Christmas decorating

A possible December date of December 6th for a “Parents Shopping Time”. It is the God Squad Cooking Baking day, and can combine a few hours in Afternoon of Family Fun with kids while their Parents do Holiday shopping.

January 4th, is 12th Night with the famous Ostendorf Pizza and Game night.

Bill suggested Dec. 21st for the Christmas Performances and will co-ordinate with Marylyn.

The meeting ended with a review of the time and talents sheets.  The expanding CE programs will require more time and talent.  May God bless us with those of the time and talent to expand our youth and adults lives with the word of God.

Respectfully submitted:

Margie Sanders
