About the Organization:
Matthew 25: Ministries was founded by the Reverend Wendell E. Mettey to provide the crucial link between Americans and those in need. He began Matthew 25: Ministries, a unique humanitarian relief organization, in 1991. Mettey’s ministry collects unused or unusable corporate products such as clothing, personal care items, medical and schools supplies… items that would otherwise end up in landfills or incineration facilities… processes and repackages them and ships them to needy recipients. These truckloads of brand new, irregular or slightly damaged goods are worthless to the corporations, but life saving to those in need. In the beginning, Mettey and his volunteers packaged the items in suitcases. Now, he ships approximately two hundred and fifty of the 40 ocean-going containers per year.
BAPC Involvement:
Harry Barnaclo, an active BAPC congregation member, has worked and supported Matthew 25: Ministries for the past three years through the Rotary Club. He has also traveled to Nicaragua, met Reverend Mettey, and witnessed this relief organization firsthand.
How to Volunteer:
Either contact Harry Barnaclo for more information, or contact Joodi Archer at 513-774-9444 if you’re interested in a specific volunteer opportunity.
Volunteer at their 80,000 square foot warehouse on Highland Avenue in Pleasant Ridge. A morning’s work by one group will typically produce enough sorted and packaged materials (ex. medical supplies, medical clinical supplies, medical equipment, school supplies, sewing supplies, clothing, shoes, cleaning products and food supplies) to provide assistance to hundreds and thousands of people in desperate need.
Fundraise through direct collections, donated chores or group events to sponsor a Pallet to the Poor. Each year they send nearly 10,000 pallets to the poor containing desperately needed supplies.
